RPHL Network Advances Regional Laboratory Leadership through GLLP ToT/ToM Cohort 2

The RPHL Network held the second phase of the Global Laboratory Leadership Programme (GLLP) Cohort 2, an in-person workshop held from 17–21 November 2025 in Pattaya, Thailand. The programme was delivered in collaboration with the GLLP Consortium and supported by The Global Fund through the Laboratory Systems Integration Fund.

This five-day workshop brought together 22 regional laboratory professionals from eight RPHL Network member countries—Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam—along with Sri Lanka participating as a non-member country. Participants represent both the public and private sectors, reflecting the programme’s commitment to strengthening multisectoral laboratory leadership across the region.

The opening ceremony was honored by the presence of Dr. Sarawut Boonsuk, Director-General of the Department of Medical Sciences, Thailand. In his remarks, Dr. Sarawut emphasized the critical role of mentorship in advancing laboratory preparedness: “Mentorship is essential for personal growth, career advancement, expanding perspectives, and strengthening laboratory systems across the region.” He also highlighted that the RPHL Network is evolving into a more self-sustaining regional network, strengthening its ability to support long-term collaboration and capacity building.

Ms. Jintana Sriwongsa, Regional Programme Director of the RPHL Network, underscored the importance of the GLLP ToT/ToM in building a strong pool of subject-matter experts, instructors, and mentors across member countries, enabling them to contribute more effectively to national and regional public health goals.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in intensive training, hands-on facilitation exercises, and collaborative learning. On the final day, they shared experiences from Viet Nam, discussed next steps for regional laboratory leadership, and explored opportunities to continue engagement through a virtual Community of Practice. Upon returning to their countries, participants will apply what they have learned and adapt the programme modules to their national needs. Instructors and mentors will continue exchanging insights, ensuring that the knowledge, collaboration, and leadership momentum from Cohort 2 continue to grow across the region.

The week-long workshop culminated in participants receiving certificates in recognition of their dedication and hard work. More importantly, many expressed excitement to apply their new knowledge and skills to strengthen laboratories in their respective countries, reflecting the RPHL Network’s ongoing commitment to fostering collaboration, empowering laboratory leaders, and supporting resilient laboratory systems across the Asia–Pacific region.
