Bangkok, 26 June 2025 – The Regional Public Health Laboratory (RPHL) Network celebrated a major milestone with the Unveiling Ceremony of its Secretariat Office, presided over by Dr. Yongyot Thammavudhi, Director-General of Thailand’s Department of Medical Sciences (DMSc). Held under the theme “Nurturing Leadership, Fostering Collaboration,” the event marked a new chapter in the Network’s mission to strengthen laboratory systems across Asia and the Pacific.
Nearly 100 participants joined both onsite and virtually, including representatives from
12 member countries, WHO SEARO, Mekong Institute, partners, and DMSc. The Global Fund also conveyed congratulations and insightful message through a video.
The event featured a Gallery Walk showcasing the Network’s journey, the official unveiling of the Secretariat Office, and the signing of a technical collaboration agreement between Thailand and Timor-Leste.
Dr. Yongyot Thammavudhi underscored Thailand’s commitment to supporting Network members and providing peer-to-peer assistance through bilateral collaboration.
Dr. Shunsuke Mabuchi, a representative from Global Fund emphasized, “The RPHL Network is more important than ever as a functional regional mechanism responding to member needs.”
Dr. Nik Jasmin Nik Mahir, a representative from Malaysia shared, “This collaborative foundation is critical. In public health, no country stands alone, and through RPHL Network, we’re proving that we are stronger together.”
Ms. Dhamari Naidoo a representative from WHO SEARO stated, “This opening signals intent and commitment to a strong, sustainable future for public health laboratory systems.”
Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, Executive Director of the Mekong Institute, emphasized that the RPHL Network’s survival during the COVID-19 pandemic is a powerful reflection of the strong ownership and commitment within the network. “This ceremony is more than just an office unveiling—it is a symbol of dedication and long-term commitment” he shared.
Ms. Jintana Sriwongsa, Regional Programme Director, reaffirmed the Secretariat’s dedication to supporting members in achieving the next chapter by nurturing leadership and fostering collaboration.
The RPHL Network, under Thailand’s leadership and with strong partner support, reaffirms its commitment to advancing resilient, high-quality public health laboratory systems across the region.
